Review: Golden Lily (Bloodlines #2) by Richelle Mead

Review:

Golden Lily was just as wonderful as I hoped it would be. The story picked up right around where Bloodlines left off. Sydney is still at the school in Palm Springs, and in charge of ensuring the safety of Jill, all the while she grows more and more unexpectedly attached to the vampires she was taught to dislike.

The plot thickened exponentially in this second addition. Sydney grows stronger in her new found magical abilities. And new enemies surface from the cracks that surprise everyone with their existence! Just when you think there can’t be anymore evil bad dudes to come after these characters, oh look there’s more!

Oh, and of course I didn’t forget about Adrian. Ohhhh Adrian….his character is so fantastic and confusing and frustrating and heartbreaking at the same time. It’s so difficult to watch the romantic frustration between him and Sydney, especially when the outcome on certain events is so predictable it was almost painful. By the end of the book, I was so ready for more to happen between them it was killing me. I just really want Adrain to be happy after everything he’s been through. And I’m sure my fellow readers can relate. I always fall for the damaged guys, it’s inevitable with these types of books.

Unfortunately, the ending made things amazing and so much worse at the same time  between the two of them. I wound up being more angry than when it started. Nonetheless, I have hope and can’t wait to read the next book! I would most definitely recommend that you continue reading the Bloodlines series and pick up this book!

Goodreads Summary:

I wasn’t free of my past, not yet.

Sydney’s blood is special. That’s because she’s an alchemist – one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets – and human lives. But the last encounter Sydney had with vampires got her in deep trouble with the other alchemists. And now with her allegiences in question, her future is on the line.

When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she’s still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far worse. Jill Dragomir – the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir – is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill’s guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And now she has to live with one.

The Moroi court believe Jill and Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside – and within – the school grounds. Now that they’re in hiding, the drama is only just beginning.

SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY SERIES, READ NO FURTHER!

My Review

I was so excited to get my hands on Bloodlines after absolutely loving The Vampire Academy! I knew the story was focused on Sydney the Alchemist but I wasn’t entirely sure what it was all about. I am so glad I started this journey with the series!

The story focuses on a new assignment for Alchemist Sydney with Jill (the half-sister of the Lissa). After Jill is brutally attacked at court she is asked to be sent away under the protection of guardians and Sydney at a boarding school among humans. After the events surrounding Rose, Sydney has been under scrutiny from her fellow Alchemists, so this is her chance to prove herself and her loyalties. However, as mysterious events surrounding alchemy tattoos progress, and she spends more and more time with Adrain, she soon finds that the line between good and evil is a lot more blurred than she realized.

Sydney’s point of view was refreshing and unexpectedly entertaining. She has a fire in her that you don’t get to see in the Vampire Academy books. Her wit and quick intuition makes her adaptable and lovable at the same time. Though there was not a whole lot of action throughout, I found myself wholly intrigued and pulled in by the characters. There were so many questions being thrown out and I had to know the answers. I wound up being very surprised by how things played out and completely enthralled by the content! The ending was highly suspenseful and utterly gripping, not to mention, I was left with even more questions by the time I reached the last page.

I cannot wait to read book two of this lovely series, I would definitely recommend reading Bloodlines if you loved Vampire Academy as much as I did! Buy it on Amazon here!

My Review

Richelle Mead never fails to blow me away with this series! My mind is reeling!! So much insanity, so much emotion, so much love! These books just get better and better as I progress through them. So to recap from Blood Promise: Rose had failed to kill Strigoi Dimitri (thank god) and has heard the news that it’s possible to turn a Strigoi human again. The book ends with her receiving a note saying Dimitri is coming for her. Ok, so that’s a pretty intense ending for sure, but wow this book got even more real!

The setting in Spirit Bound is primarily at the royal court, so a lot of new information and characters are tied into the plot. As Rose gets in deeper with the law, she finds herself slowly becoming consumed by her need to speak out and do whats right, regardless of the consequences. As events progress, Dimitri and Lissa come to find that they have a very unique part to play in the role of politics and what we thought we knew (about everything) is most definitely not what it seems!

So much happened in this book, I could barely keep up! There wasn’t a single slow moment! Development after development were thrown at me, it was an emotional rollercoaster like never before.  And there was lots of frustration at a certain someone, let me tell ya!! By the time I reached the ending, I didn’t know what to think or how to react. I am at a total loss for words!! I CANNOT WAIT to keep reading, I’m gonna be so sad when I finish this wonderful series!! Keep reading these books folks if you’re already this far, go go go!!

Review: Blood Promise (Vampire Academy #4) by Richelle Mead

Goodreads Summary:

Rose Hathaway’s life will never be the same.

The recent attack on St. Vladimir’s Academy devastated the entire Moroi world. Many are dead. And, for the few victims carried off by Strigoi, their fates are even worse. A rare tattoo now adorns Rose’s neck, a mark that says she’s killed far too many Strigoi to count. But only one victim matters … Dimitri Belikov. Rose must now choose one of two very different paths: honoring her life’s vow to protect Lissa—her best friend and the last surviving Dragomir princess—or, dropping out of the Academy to strike out on her own and hunt down the man she loves. She’ll have to go to the ends of the earth to find Dimitri and keep the promise he begged her to make. But the question is, when the time comes, will he want to be saved?

Now, with everything at stake—and worlds away from St. Vladimir’s and her unguarded, vulnerable, and newly rebellious best friend—can Rose find the strength to destroy Dimitri? Or, will she sacrifice herself for a chance at eternal love?

My Review

Oh where to begin?! Richelle Mead strikes again!! After Shadow Kiss ended with the most heart wrenching twist ever, I was more than ready to read what was coming next, but I wasn’t so sure my heart could handle any more! Recap of ending tidbit from Shadow Kiss: Dimitri is killed and becomes reborn as a strigoi during the attack at St Vladimir’s. Rose drops out and sets off on a mission to kill him, knowing that’s what his true self would have wanted her to do.

Ok so that’s pretty heavy stuff going right into it! Am I right?! This book was unlike any others in the series yet! For the first time, the school is not the main setting. Rose travels to Russia looking for the now turned Dimitri. Along the way she meets unlikely allies, and learns a lot more about who Dimitri is as a person and the lengths she is willing to go to to survive and to accomplish her heart’s desires.

There was so much intense emotion just pouring out of every page of this book!! I was completely hooked on the content, but I must admit that a lot of the emotion coming from me was most certainly anger! Anger at the characters, at the situation, at the author, and damn did I have every right to be!! I could not believe Mead did what she did to Dimitri, and it was utterly heartbreaking to see him as a strigoi. Although, it does start opening your mind up to the possibilities and new paths that Rose could potentially go down. I do commend Mead however, for writing the story in a way that allowed for all the characters to still have a distinct role! Though many of the events were devastating, hope is most definitely promised by the end of the book! I do believe there will be a happy ending still to come! I cannot wait to begin the next installment!

If you are still loving this series as much as I am, then you should definitely continue on and read Blood Promise! Buy it on Amazon here!

Book Review: Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead

Goodreads Summary:

WHEN LOVE AND JEALOUSY COLLIDE ON THE SLOPES, WINTER BREAK TURNS DEADLY…

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

Rose has serious guy trouble. Her gorgeous tutor, Dimitri, has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason has a huge crush on her, and she keeps getting stuck in her best friend Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian.

Then a nearby Strigoi attack puts St. Vladimir’s on high alert, and the Academy whisks its students away on a mandatory holiday ski trip. But the glittering winter landscape and posh Idaho resort only provide the illusion of safety. When three students run away to strike back against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. Only this time, Rose – and her heart – are in more danger than she ever could have imagined…

My Review

I loved the first book in this series so much, so I was more than looking forward to reading the next in the series. I must say that I definitely enjoyed it a lot, but not quite as much as I did Vampire Academy.

Frostbite picks up right where the first book left off, with Rose and Lissa having been put through the wringer after both being attacked by Strigoi. Lissa finally learns the truth about her abilities, and Rose and Dimitri’s relationship is back to square one. So, now that Rose has gone through enough school, she can take the “exam” to continue her training. However, while she’s on her way to do so, her and Dimitri stumble upon a devastating crime scene and soon discover just how much more of a threat the Strigoi are about to become.

Although I liked Frostbite, I felt that not as much happened in this sequel as did the first. That may just be because the first one had to introduce all the characters for the first time. However, there are some new characters that are brought in as well, that I actually really liked! I definitely was not expecting the plot to take place the way it did, but it was great to see the characters in a new setting. The ending of the book was insane and had me completely enthralled! There were just so many emotions thrown at me at once, I could barely keep up! I can’t wait to read more!

I would definitely recommend you read Frostbite if you’ve started the series! Buy it on Amazon here!
