Top Ten Things I love About Summer

Alright, so I realize it’s not a Tuesday, or even a day that starts with a T but this week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic over at The Broke and the Bookish is a freebie. So might as well still post one right?? So if you haven’t stepped outside recently, you might have noticed that it is in fact summer. Living in Arizona I am reminded of that the instant I leave the house. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t love summer any less! So in no particular order, I give you all the reasons I love this beautiful hot season!

1. More time for reading: first and foremost!  Every reader (at least every reader who is a student) cherishes the summer because they know that means it’s time to catch up on pleasure reading! Not a single textbook shall be cracked!

2. Poolside/tanning:  Yes I admit it, I am a basic AZ girl and love me some tanning! And you know what goes so well with tanning? Reading!

3. Netflix: Ok this one is a given! I binge watch so many shows during the summer time! It’s so much fun to just sit there for hours and let the world melt away as a new one unfurls on the screen! So far this summer I’ve watched Gotham and Chuck! I would definitely recommend watching either one.

4. Meeting up with friends: I have friends that go to all different schools around the state and country. The summer is the perfect time to catch up with friends I don’t usually get to see during the school year!

5. Stress free zone: Detoxing of stress comes so easily when there are no exams to study for and no homework to be struggling over. Summer is the perfect time to recharge and rejuvenate!

6. Vacation: Whether its a day, a weekend, or a week, vacations are abound!

7.Extra work hours: Summer jobs save my financial butt! During the school year I am a full time student, so the summer months are the only time I work. This summer in particular, I am working two part time jobs that I absolutely love!

8. Time to do those things I said I would: Each year I make a summer to do list of all the things I’ve been meaning to finally accomplish! Setting goals early on helps keep me motivated to at least be somewhat productive in between the Netflix/reading!

9. Exercising: There is so much more time to get in a good long work out each day and prep for that bikini! This summer my go to has been Daily Burn, each day a brand new 30 minute workout is posted! These work outs are geared toward any one of all ages and will whip you into shape in no time!

10. The food: watermelon and cherries are in season, and there’s nothing like a Strawberry Limeade from Sonic to really make it feel like summer! Not to mention a little backyard barbecue for Fourth of July!

Top Ten Tuesdays: Top Ten Reasons I love Jennifer L. Armentrout

This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Yes hello hey! I’m back for another Top Ten Tuesday (I realize mine are very sporadic now). Any who,  this week’s topic is “Top Ten Reasons I love (insert something you love). I have read many books by Jennifer L. Armentrout over the past 5 years or so. I am completely and totally in love with her books and writing style! So allow me to explain just how much and why I love her as an author!

Alright prepare for the fangirling!tumblr_lkjx9nfCED1qafrh6_zps6fc37e63

1. She creates the best witty banter between the two love interests in her books!

“Why are you such an ass?” The words came out before I could think twice.
“Everyone has to excel at something, right?”
“Well, you’re doing a great job.”

-Obsidian (Lux #1)

2.Every one of her books is unique and unlike anything I’ve ever read!

3. She has the best author Instagram account: @authorjlarmentrout

4. Did I mention she’s a Fan of Supernatural?!

5. JLA is always writing, so even when you have to wait for the next book in her series to come out, there’s a pretty good chance you can read something else of her’s while you wait!

6. She creates a KILLER romance in every book/series!

7. Her books are “unputdownable!”

8.JLA knows how to throat punch you with all the feels!

9. You can always count on there being hilarious pop culture references in her books!

10. And most importantly….She gave the world DAEMON BLACK!

Books I’ve Read By Jennifer L. Armentrout

  1. The Lux Series (my absolute favorite) including Oblivion
  2. Obsession (Lux spinoff)
  3. The Covenant Series
  4. The Dark Elements Series
  5. Don’t Look Back
  6. Wicked
  7. Wait for You

There are quite a few others out there, 4 of which are waiting for me on my Kindle!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten ADDITIONAL Things I’ve Now Learned in College

If you have been following my blog for quite some time now, then you probably read my Top Ten Things I Learned in College post that I wrote at the end of my freshman year last year. If not, check it out here! Well another (much more brutal) year has gone by, and naturally I learned a lot more stuff. In fact, I’m coming to find that in college, you learn a hell of a lot more about life than you do on the subjects you’re actually paying to learn about. I haven’t participated in a “Top Ten Tuesday” post in a while, but I thought I would create my own for this week since I just completed my sophomore year last Wednesday.

1. The toughest situations you’ll encounter will show you exactly who your real friends are: I went through quite the hellish experience over the course of the entire year in which my best friend decided not to be my friend anymore (very long story put shortly). However, as I was losing her, I came to grow closer with many of my other friends and gained so much more from any loss I had.

2. If you have the right study group then there’s nothing you can’t do: my study group for Organic Chemistry this year got me through week after week of late nighters and helped motivate me to push through! There was nothing we couldn’t accomplish together!

3. Networking is the key to everything: networking is one of the best things you can do in order to move forward with your goals. I was able to find my summer jobs through networking and a lot of my friends I met through other friends. You’ll be surprised at how helpful it can be. I was even able to get most of my textbooks through friends of friends etc.

4. If you want housing off campus, PUT A LOT OF EFFORT into finding the best place: hence where more networking comes in! The perfect place for you is out there, nobody said you have to settle, you just have to be willing to put in the work for it.

5. Sometimes it’s ok to choose your own happiness over others’: when you let go of what brings you down and finally decide to accept how much you matter, you will be surprised at how free you will feel!

6. Just when you think you can’t handle any more stress, you will be surprised to discover that you can: there were so many times during the school year that I would be feeling overwhelmed by not only my school load but my personal life drama as well.  I thought I couldn’t take anymore, but there is definitely no truer saying that God doesn’t give you more than you can handle. There is always a way to make it through the tough times, you just can’t give up.

7. If you over indulge in comfort food while studying for finals, it will come back to bite you:  I had not planned on starting my summer on a diet until I realized how bad that comfort food got me in this last month of school. Comfort food is totally ok, just in duration…

8. (Contrary to #7) Take a Physical Education Class: So yes, I may have over eaten toward the end, but it was at least stemmed a little by the fact that I was enrolled in a Kickboxing class this past semester! Kickboxing is an AMAZING stress reliever, there is nothing like punching and kicking things to really make a girl feel better!

9. No matter what, there is ALWAYS time for Netflix: another great stress reliever, and sure you may lose sleep but hey it will be worth it!

10. Don’t feel bad if you aren’t able to work during the school year, but definitely be sure to work: I have plenty of friends who work during the year and plenty who don’t (including myself) it all depends on what you think you can handle, but no matter what, finding a job and working a job is so very valuable during any time of the year. Especially if you want to be able to afford those summer road trip plans with your friends!

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Childhood Characters I’d Love To Revisit As Adults

This is meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I haven’t done one of these in a long time. It’s so hard to find the time to do these posts but this one definitely sounded fun. These are characters from books I read in elementary school and Junior High that I would love to read a book of now about them as adults.

1. Dealing with Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles #1) by Patricia C. Wrede: Cimorene

2. The BFG by Roald Dahl: Sophie

3. Gone Series by Michael Grant: basically every single character from this series

4. The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker: Although I’m pretty sure Emeralda was an adult by the end of these, that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to read about her story now!

5. Rowan Hood: Outlaw Girl of Sherwood Forest: Rowan

6. Crispin: The Cross of Lead by AVI: Crispin

7. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series: Percy Jackson

8. Eragon by Christopher Paolini: this one I just need closure on, so all the characters.

9.The Looking Glass Wars by Frank Beddor: Alyss

10. The Named (Guardians of Time Series) by Marianne Curley: all of the characters, though I believe she is actually making a book four this many years later!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books on My Spring TBR

This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Here’s hoping I can get to half of the books on this list! Some of these are making a repeat appearance. Oh well…here they are in no particular order.

(Finally gonna try and reread The Premonition Series before reading the last one!!)

PS: There are five books in this series, hence why there aren’t ten books listed!

Top Ten Tuesday: Ten Songs I Wish Were Books

This meme is hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

Yes I know these Top Ten Tuesday posts are few and far between. I’m a science major sophomore in college. Enough said. Anyway…I can’t pass up this post!! So instead of studying for my Organic Chemistry exam this Friday I’m writing this! If you’re a regular reader of my blog then you’ve seen my Musical Mondays posts, naturally when I saw a music themed Top Ten Tuesday I jumped on the opportunity to share more songs! And how cool of a topic is this?

**Each song is linked to Youtube**

 1. Frontline by PillarI can just see this song being a book (in fact I’ve shared it on a Musical Mondays post before) but it would be some kind of epic battle between sides, with a struggle for victory against a seemingly insurmountable enemy.

2. Poison & Wine by The Civil Wars: This is probably one of the most beautifully romantic and simultaneously heartbreaking songs I know! This book would be about a tumultuous romance between two destructive personalities but in the end the two are just meant to be.

3. Your Betrayal by Bullet For My Valentine: This song is just straight up badass!  This book would be a paranormal romance about an avenging angel  who struggles between good and evil and succombing to his darker urges to kill rather than bring justice to sinners, all the while falling in love with one of his victims.

4. Misguided Ghosts by Paramore: A supernatural story about a person in limbo or something like that.

5. The Crazy Ones by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus: This would just be the cutest quirkiest romance!

6. Be My Escape by Relient K: My all time favorite song and it would make such a memorable story of redemption.

7. This is Gonna Hurt by Sixx: A.M.: Another epic supernatural story, involving a trip to Hell and action packed battle sequences ( I already feel like this song describes the show Supernatural SO well!).

8.The Antitode by Story of the Year:  A dystopian biological warfare aftermath novel that involves time travel. May sound like a stretch, but look up the lyrics! This song almost reminds me of The Twelve Monkeys now that I think about it.

9. Killing Strangers by Marilyn Manson: Yes this song is practically the theme for the movie John Wick but it would make a pretty awesome book too, probably about assassins or even just people forced to do the unthinkable in order to protect the people they care about.

10. Miss Missing You by Fall Out Boy: I could see this being an inspirational story about moving on.
