Goodreads Summary:

After narrowly escaping death at the hands of the Dames Blanches, Lou, Reid, Coco, and Ansel are on the run from coven, kingdom, and church—fugitives with nowhere to hide.

To elude the scores of witches and throngs of chasseurs at their heels, Lou and Reid need allies. Strong ones. But protection comes at a price, and the group is forced to embark on separate quests to build their forces. As Lou and Reid try to close the widening rift between them, the dastardly Morgane baits them in a lethal game of cat and mouse that threatens to destroy something worth more than any coven.

My Review

Blood & Honey started off hilarious, and full of all the character development I enjoyed from Serpent & Dove and it got me all excited for the rest of the story. But unfortunately it did not deliver.

I was hesitant to start book two after hearing mixed things. And now I understand. The overall story was there and it was intriguing but the execution just fell short. As we know, the gang are still out to kill Lou’s mother and gain allies along the way to defeat her and her clan. Unfortunately, not a whole lot toward the overall plot happens though. This book felt like an in-between story. And what’s worse, the romance totally tanked! The direction she took Reid and Lou’s romance in Blood & Honey was sooo frustrating. Every time they took one step forward, they took another two back. This made it really hard to enjoy either character. If anything, I got greater enjoyment from the supporting characters.

The final 50 pages helped bring a little redemption to the story and the cliffhanger at the end was NOT OK!!! I AM NOT OK! Long story short, damn Mahurin for giving me a subpar sequel but providing just enough to make me still want to read book three. Can anyone else relate? Let me know your thoughts!

My Review

I have heard nothing but amazing things about Serpent & Dove for months now and finally got the chance to read it, and just in time for book two! Though the story for sure had a slower start, it picked up a third of the way in and definitely had me hooked! It was definitely new to me to have a husband/wife scenario right off the bat and consisting of two polar opposite people who kind of sort of hate the other lol! But that’s what made the story SO endearing!

Reid is the innocent Chasseur who doesn’t cuss and is hell bent on killing witches in the name of the Lord. Whereas Lou is the exact antithesis of that, a witch with a sailors mouth who is willing to stir up trouble wherever she goes. Cue adorable forbidden romance! Oh and throw in some awesome humor, suspense, killer witches, and plenty of reveals, and you’ve got yourself one whopper of a story folks!

I’m definitely looking forward to book two, if you’ve read Blood & Honey, let me know what you thought
