My Review:

With these Wings snagged my attention from the start! When reading the blurb and seeing the cover, I couldn’t help but wonder, is this really about aliens or is it angels? And there’s romance, and an apocalypse, all things I love to read about! Needless to say, I had to get my hands on it. And boy was I not disappointed!

This unique story starts off right in the thick of things. The end of the world is in full swing and there is absolutely no turning back! When Phoenyx is taken by an alien race from her best friend and the boy she loves, she has no hope of seeing him again. Until the day, much later they suddenly cross paths. Only Phoenyx is not quite human anymore, and Cole whom she loved so wholeheartedly doesn’t react in a way that encourages their love. However, circumstances bring them closer together as their lives are continuously threatened by the alien races among them. And Phoenyx or Nyx as she now goes by is the only person capable of protecting the human race from all that lurks in the night.

Nyx’s character was a total badass throughout, if not a little dangerously stubborn. Her need to rush in to danger was commendable but definitely annoying at times! It was kind of sad to see her as being the only real thing that stood in the way between life and total destruction of what was left of the human race. Her relationship with Cole is nothing short of tumultuous throughout, but don’t fret readers, because there is certainly hope. And their love for one another remained strong regardless of their constant struggles to come to terms with their new unexpected reality.

As the story progressed, I couldn’t help but notice how non-stop the action and suspense was! There wasn’t a single dull moment, and as the ending hit, the events reached a stunning and satisfying peak! I thoroughly enjoyed With these Wings, and look forward to seeing more from these characters in the future! If you are looking for your next sci fi read, I would most definitely recommend this book!

Snippet:
Nyx scooted closer to the rocky precipice, and then just a bit further, so she could curl her toes around the edge. The wind howled, jerking at her hair and loose, black dress. She stared down, trying to estimate the drop. It was so far she couldn’t see the bottom in the darkness, but then, the moon wasn’t giving her much light tonight. She spread her arms wide, embracing the emptiness, and tumbled forward. She fell so fast that the mountainside blurred around her and the scream of the wind in her ears almost, almost, drowned out the roar of adrenaline. The ground raced up to meet her, seemingly hungry for her blood, aching for her death. Not today. Her wings shot out, jerking her to a stop mid-air, her feet almost grazing the ground that had moments before been a demon about to devour her alive.

Review: Iniquity (Premonition #5) by Amy A. Bartol

15847757

Goodreads Summary:

I gasp as my body curls toward Brennus like a flower to the sun, for the pleasure of it. He holds me close to him. His nose grazes the length of my neck. He breathes me in. I feel the roar and rush of my heartbeat. I’m his toy; his energy streams into me. He winds the invisible key in my back and the euphoria ratchets and coils inside of me: tick…tick…tick…

Another wicked surge of energy flows from him into me. Pain. Pleasure. Bliss. My jaw unclenches as my lips part. I make a small, breathy sound as we dance. Brennus responds with something close to a growl. “Ye’re killing me, mo chroí,” he murmurs. His hand moves down my back infusing me with a golden glow of power. My wings punch violently from me, tearing a hole in my day dress. They spread wide, like a red stain beyond my pale skin. I’m dancing now for the thrill of it. I follow his lead.

As the song comes to an end, Brennus kisses my throat. He whispers in my ear, “When ye get back, come find me, mo chroí. I’ve healed ye…now wake up and banjax whoever banished ye here…”

My Review

Well the time has finally come!! I finished reading The Premonition series and I don’t know how to feel! I’ve spent five years reading these books and its so sad to see these characters go. I had to say goodbye to Reed and Evie and it was most definitely difficult.

Iniquity was action packed and full of suspense from start to finish! I was in love with it on page one, as I knew I would be. The story began right where the fourth book left off with Evie almost dying again, and Brennus being changed by her blood. Reed escapes with her and she is barely saved on time after being healed by Russel.

I know the common critique about these books is that a ridiculous amount of guys like Evie and the numbers grow every book. Trust me, I thought the same thing, especially after Xavier was introduced. I assure you fellow readers, all your questions and concerns will be satisfied after reading this book! I was blown away by the turn of events and the final reveal. It finally made everything make sense, and honestly it justified why all these men were after her quite easily. It was very well done and I was so pleased by all that I had learned.

This book certainly took me on an emotional rollercoaster and the romance between Reed and Evie was EVERYTHING!! I never gave up hope for an instant, though I have to admit I was really intrigued as to how Bartol was going to turn everything around. Which brings me to the ending, it was very unexpected in every way. And quite honestly, I started to think that the fifth book wasn’t going to be the final book in the serious. I’m starting to wonder if Bartol is going to write some kind of novella or surprise next book. The ending just didn’t feel complete, it was in some ways, but there were just certain hints that lead me to believe there could be more to come, at least from other characters.

Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed Iniquity and loved everything it had to throw at me. I am so so sad to say goodbye to these beloved characters and this beloved story.

Reread & Review: Incendiary (Premonition #4) by Amy A. Bartol

13502970

Goodreads Summary:

Cold, fine drops of rain fall softly on my cheeks as I emerge from the darkness of the ship’s interior to the gray, overcast sky of the main deck. Pulling my dark pea coat tighter to my body, the wind lifts red tendrils of my hair. I walk slowly to the railing overlooking the water.

I catch my first sight of the Irish coastline; its craggy landscape makes me shiver in dread. I find it difficult to imagine now how the Gancanagh had made this their home for so long without anyone realizing it. The cold, moss-covered edifices practically scream their presence. As I study the shadows between the falling-down stone, I imagine creeping shapes of undead Faeries grasping the rock, waiting for our ship to draw nearer to their position.

Tipping my face up, I let the rain wash over me. It bathes away the frigid sweat of fear that has broken on my brow. “You don’t know how fiercely beautiful you are, do you?” A quiet voice behind me asks, causing me to stiffen and fix my eyes on the rocks along the shoreline.

My Review

I just realized that it has literally been 4 years since I read this book!! So of course a reread was necessary before I finally complete the series! I remember reading Incendiary the first time and flipping the flip out over what happened!!! I couldn’t stop reading the beautiful content. Now that I’ve read it again, I can’t believe how much I forgot and I remember why I was freaking out so much! This book is a remarkable addition to the series!

Incendiary picks up around where Indebted left off, which is with Evie on the run from Brennus and currently in hiding with her friends. I am not exaggerating when I say that SO MUCH HAPPENS IN THIS BOOK! Honestly it sucked cause it took me over two weeks to read it this time around (it’s a pretty long book in my defense), but wow, I felt as if I read two books in one . The first half was so utterly different then the second. Bartol packs a wallop with Incendiary. Developments are thrown around non-stop; there is most certainly not a single slow moment to be seen.

Quite a few new characters are introduced in book four that literally change the fabric of the story. And characters that you already know evolve in new unforeseen ways. Evie’s  relationship with Reed grows ever stronger and heart wrenchingly painful as events play out. Just when you think they are out of the storm, the clouds come in again. My heart could not take all of the emotion at once. Parts of the plot were just brutal to read but oh so worth seeing through to the end. I absolutely loved Incendiary and I am SO SO excited to finally, FINALLY get to read the last book in this beloved series several years after embarking on this journey.

I would most definitely recommend you get your hands on this series or continue on with it by reading Incendiary! Buy it on Amazon here!

Reread and Review: Indebted (The Premonition #3) by Amy A. Bartol

13502963

Goodreads Summary:

I hang my head in sorrow for just a moment when I know I am truly alone. I feel like I’m going to my execution, just as he had said. Then I move forward again. I hop a fence of fieldstone and cross a field dotted with Queen Anne’s lace. Goose bumps rise on my arms as I pass the cluster of windmills that I have seen in a dream. The scent is sweet in the field though, not the scent of heat, like it had been when it was forced upon me in visions. I gaze down the hill, beyond the small, whitewashed house that I knew would be there. The church looms dark and grim with its rough-hewn, timber façade, capped by tall, oblong spires reaching to the sky. Black, ominous clouds have collected above the roofline, as if Heaven is showing me the way.

My Review

I was so ecstatic to finally reread Indebted in my overly long journey of rereading The Premonition series so I can at last read the final book in the series! I absolutely love this series, and book three was just as fantastic the second time around!

Evie now has survived everything her crazy world has to throw at her: including archangels  and a hoard of fairies. Yeah this series really is this insane! After having just barely escaped Brennus with the help of Russell and getting thrown into the fire of Dominion, Evie must remain alert at all times for any other new threats. She is most definitely not out of the storm yet as she encounters creatures she never could have imagined existed!

Indebted is a pivotal novel in this series in that it makes you reevaluate the difference between good and evil. It also tears at your heart and emotions like never before. Although I am forever team Reed, I began to see things from Brennus’ perspective and sympathize with his love for Evie. Book three really delves into the layers of each character.   Of course I was hooked from the very start! And even though there were super frustrating parts in this book, I couldn’t put it down. The action and developments were non-stop! It was utterly enthralling and I am more in love with Reed than ever before!

I would most definitely recommend anyone who has started this series to continue on with it! I can’t wait to read more!

Review: Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6) by Richelle Mead

6527740

Goodreads Summary:

They come first.

My vision was growing dimmer, the blackness and ghosts closing in. I swore it was like I could hear Robert whispering in my ear: The world of the dead won’t give you up a second time. Just before the light completely vanished, I saw Dimitri’s face join Lissa’s. I wanted to smile. I decided then that if the two people I loved most were safe, I could leave this world.

The dead could finally have me.

Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules. She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardians to come.

Now the law has finally caught up with Rose – for a crime she didn’t even commit. She’s in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She’ll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.

But the clock on Rose’s life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back…and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your whole life is about saving others, who will save you?

My Review

Wow, just wow! I can’t believe I finished The Vampire Academy series at last! My heart is so happy and so sad at the same time to say goodbye to these beloved characters! I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to finish reading it (over 2 weeks) but being a college student really sucks sometimes!

Spirit Bound ended with Rose being the sole suspect for the murder of the Moroi Queen Tatiana!! Rose was forced to flee with Dimitri (yay!) leaving her friends back at court to discover who the real culprit is!  This crazy of an ending had me pining for the next book! I was dying to know who actually had killed the queen and how in the hell Rose was going to get out of this situation! Most importantly, I NEEDED to see things finally work out between her and Dimitri!

Last Sacrifice brought about the next great adventure for Rose and her friends! Mead has such an extraordinary way of creating a brand new story, distinctly separate from the last. There are never any redundancies with these books! So many new discoveries happen that had me in shock! I hated that it took me so long to read this book because I know I would have enjoyed it even more. However, it didn’t make the story drag whatsoever, which is a true test as to how great the plot was. There were developments after developments, and the opposite of what you expected to happen happened.

I have to admit that the ending was surprising and yet a little less exciting than the past endings have been. I guess I thought there would be a little bit more of a bang for the final conclusion. Don’t get me wrong I was completely satisfied with the way everything played out, I just thought there would have been just a little bit more action, although you could say the rest of the book made up for that since so much happened throughout!! And of course my love for Dimitri grew ever stronger! So much swooning folks, so much swooning! You will most definitely be pleased by the romantic conclusion, do not fret!

If you’re looking for a new vampire read, then The Vampire Academy series are the books for you! These books have fantastic characters, fast paced plots, and a killer romance!!

Book Review: Frostbite (Vampire Academy #2) by Richelle Mead

2282133

Goodreads Summary:

WHEN LOVE AND JEALOUSY COLLIDE ON THE SLOPES, WINTER BREAK TURNS DEADLY…

Lissa Dragomir is a Moroi princess: a mortal vampire with a rare gift for harnessing the earth’s magic. She must be protected at all times from Strigoi; the fiercest vampires – the ones who never die. The powerful blend of human and vampire blood that flows through Rose Hathaway, Lissa’s best friend, makes her a dhampir. Rose is dedicated to a dangerous life of protecting Lissa from the Strigoi, who are hell-bent on making Lissa one of them.

Rose has serious guy trouble. Her gorgeous tutor, Dimitri, has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason has a huge crush on her, and she keeps getting stuck in her best friend Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian.

Then a nearby Strigoi attack puts St. Vladimir’s on high alert, and the Academy whisks its students away on a mandatory holiday ski trip. But the glittering winter landscape and posh Idaho resort only provide the illusion of safety. When three students run away to strike back against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. Only this time, Rose – and her heart – are in more danger than she ever could have imagined…

My Review

I loved the first book in this series so much, so I was more than looking forward to reading the next in the series. I must say that I definitely enjoyed it a lot, but not quite as much as I did Vampire Academy.

Frostbite picks up right where the first book left off, with Rose and Lissa having been put through the wringer after both being attacked by Strigoi. Lissa finally learns the truth about her abilities, and Rose and Dimitri’s relationship is back to square one. So, now that Rose has gone through enough school, she can take the “exam” to continue her training. However, while she’s on her way to do so, her and Dimitri stumble upon a devastating crime scene and soon discover just how much more of a threat the Strigoi are about to become.

Although I liked Frostbite, I felt that not as much happened in this sequel as did the first. That may just be because the first one had to introduce all the characters for the first time. However, there are some new characters that are brought in as well, that I actually really liked! I definitely was not expecting the plot to take place the way it did, but it was great to see the characters in a new setting. The ending of the book was insane and had me completely enthralled! There were just so many emotions thrown at me at once, I could barely keep up! I can’t wait to read more!

I would definitely recommend you read Frostbite if you’ve started the series! Buy it on Amazon here!

Review: Sweet Reckoning (The Sweet Trilogy #3) by Wendy Higgins

16007855

Goodreads Summary:

It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

My Review

The Sweet Trilogy just kept getting better with age! As I read them, I couldn’t help but feel that the next book was better than the last! The third was definitely my favorite of the series! By this point, Kaidan and Anna are in the thick of everything, but their relationship and love for one another are in full bloom! Ya see why I loved this one now?

Sweet Reckoning started in the middle of the action with Anna in preparation of finally fulfilling the prophecy once and for all. All she has to do until then is keep her relationship hidden with Kaidan, keep her allies close, and keep up the front of a badass drunkard Nephilim, not hard right? WRONG! There was danger at every turn and the suspense was nonstop! I couldn’t put this book down!

Kaidan and Anna’s love for one another grows even stronger in this third and final installment. The characters grow in their relationships and heartbreaking truths are revealed. This book literally took me on an emotional rollercoaster! I was swooning and screaming and crying (most of this internally). There was just so much constantly happening. Higgins wrote an epic conclusion to the series! I couldn’t have been happier with the way events played out. Though I admit the main conflict felt a little rushed, it didn’t stop me from loving the story overall! It got me all gushy at the end at how adorable Kaidan was (as usual)!

If you’re a fan of The Sweet Trilogy, then I WOULD MOST DEFINITELY recommend you finish the series and read this book! And yes I have found out there is a fourth book but it’s from Kai’s perspective so it’s not necessarily a continuation *sighs*. You can buy Sweet Reckoning on Amazon here!
