Review: The Brightest Night (Origin #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:

Less than a year ago, Evelyn Dasher was a normal girl, living an unremarkable life.

Now, she’s on the run, under the protection of the beautiful, deadly inhuman Luc. She’s been betrayed by those who were closest to her. And she’s learned truths about herself that she never saw coming–things she once knew, and was made to forget. Truths with devastating consequences. She’s caught in the eye of the storm.

He is the darkest star.
You are the burning shadow.
And together, you will bring about the brightest night.

4-star

My Review

The Brightest Night was a wonderful addition to the Origin series and I thoroughly enjoyed it throughout. The story continues smoothly into Evie and Luc’s journey, where they have now made it to a Luxen safe zone after barely surviving the trip there. Of course their troubles are far from over and on top of facing the ever growing threat that is the Daedalus, Evie must also attempt to win over the rest of the compound in order to gain their trust in her.

As you can see, I didn’t give The Brightest Night 5 stars, but it for sure came very close. The story kept me intrigued all the way through. I absolutely loved seeing Evie and Luc’s relationship further unfold and grow in the most wonderful ways. You genuinely get to see the ends they will go to for one another which seems to be a common motif in JLAs Lux books. Also, you get sooo much more from Daemon in this book which was amazing and is making me need a Lux reread RIGHT NOW! However, I couldn’t help but notice that not a whole lot happened throughout the majority of the book. It’s not until the final 50 pages or so that you get more information that influences the overall plot going forward. Like I said, this didn’t stop me from really enjoying the entire thing, it still kept my attention and didn’t feel boring, I just wish we had been given more juicy things throughout instead of only at the end.

This leads me into the ending, and HOLY SH**!! I am utterly shocked and devastated and MY HEART!! The ending was crazy and I cannot wait for more, I NEED MORE! Sorry for all the exclamation points and feelings, but just go read the darn thing and you will understand! I highly recommend this one regardless of the overall lack of movement throughout the meatier parts of the story, but that doesn’t mean you won’t still love it, because I certainly did!

REVIEW: Origin (Lux #4) by Jennifer Armentrout

Origin-final-1600px

Goodreads Description:

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

Hey it’s Brigit and Grace, seeing as our last review together was on The Lux Series we felt it was only fitting that we review Origin together as well.

Jennifer Armentrout has once again amazed us and blown us away, then again we never doubted her abilities. Origin was a game changer for the entire series, and the most suspenseful and romantic one yet! Daemon and Katy’s all consuming love was brought to a whole new level as they were faced with imminent peril around every corner. The continuous action and heart wrenching moments rivaled even the greatest action movies we’ve seen and we are very well rounded in the action movie department! Throughout the book the humorous dialogue and witty banter kept the story entertaining, so much so it was hard to tell if we were crying from joy or from pain, there was literally that much emotion pouring out of this book!

*****SPOILER ALERT, IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE PAST THREE BOOKS IN THIS SERIES DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER***

At the end of Opal (Lux #3) the cliff hanger had left us breathless and not the good kind either. Katy being captured was the sort of ending that left us screaming into the abyss at the injustice of the world!! On the other hand it left us in dire need for the next book. With the release of Origin, there were no bounds to our joy! We couldn’t wait to experience Daemon’s ruthless rampage against Daedalus to rescue his kitten. And boy did we get the full Daemon package 😉 because Origin was the first Lux book to EVER have his point of view! This allowed us to see the softer side of Daemon *sigh* along with the true inner-workings of Daemon Black’s mind which was just beautiful/sexy all around. His hilarious and endearing comments prompt us to believe that he didn’t work for cocky, cocky worked for him. Both the views of Daemon and Katy added to the raw emotion in the book and let the reader really connect to the characters through each jaw dropping scene.

The romance in Origin evolved and blossomed into a beautiful butterfly 😀 . Our hearts broke and melted all at the same time as we took the journey on the emotional rollarcoaster this book brought us on. Daemon and Katy shared the sweetest moments that only made their love stronger, and they needed all the strength they could get to face new and monstrous enemies. Unexpected developments occur with Daedalus that leave you questioning everything you’ve read in the past books. New friendships are formed with unlikely allies and old friendships are broken with unforeseen adversaries, all in all making for an uncertain tomorrow. By the end of the book, not only the fate of the Black family hangs in the balance but the fate of the world does too!

We absolutely love The Lux Series, and Origin makes for a welcomed addition to the series. We most definitely recommend you read this book and if you haven’t read The Lux Series there’s no better time than the present! Now we must embark on the strenuous wait for the fifth and final Lux book titled Opposition out in the Summer of 2014. It will be long and brutal but we are sure that the end will be worth it!
