Review: Oblivion (Lux #1.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Goodreads Summary:

Experience the epic love story of OBSIDIAN as told by its hero, Daemon Black…

I knew the moment Katy Swartz moved in next door, there was going to be trouble. Lots of it.

And trouble’s the last thing I need, since I’m not exactly from around here. My people arrived on Earth from Lux, a planet thirteen billion light years away. Plus, if there’s one thing I know, it’s that humans can’t be trusted. We scare them. We can do things they only dream about, and honestly, we make them look weak as hell. ‘Cuz they are.

But Kat is getting to me in ways no one else has, and I can’t stop myself from wanting her—or wanting to use my powers to protect her. She makes me weak, and I’m the strongest of our kind, tasked with protecting us all. So this one simple girl…she can mean the end for us. Because the Luxen have an even bigger enemy—the Arum, and I need to stay on my game.

Falling for Katy—a human—won’t just place her in danger. It could get us all killed, and that’s one thing I’ll never let happen…

My Review

I’ve been reading Oblivion since early January;due to my insanity of a life/life as a book blogger, I had to read each book individually instead of powering through all three at once as I had originally planned. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish. I had little doubt that I wouldn’t! The Lux Series is one of my all time favorites, and getting the chance to read it from Daemon’s POV was a dream come true!!

Daemon is at the top of my book boyfriends list (of course I have one), so naturally I was swooning all over the place all the way through. It was just so thrilling to see how much he truly cared about Kat from the VERY beginning. Of course I always knew that had to have been the case, but still, it was nice to confirm that. Daemon is a hilarious narrator, and JLA captures his personality well. Reading this beloved series from his POV had me falling in love with him and the story all over again. It was just as gripping and just as satisfying. I feel like Armentrout was really able to tie up loose ends this way.

Oblivion made for a wonderful addition to The Lux series, and rekindled my love for the series. I would definitely recommend you read the Kindle version of it in order to read all three books and not just the first. SO WORTH IT!

Although, I must admit, ending the book with Kat being taken by the DOD was a freaking heartbreaking way to leave things. Even though I knew it was coming and I knew it would end that way, reading it from Daemon’s perspective and seeing his internal reaction was heart wrenching in every way, yet at the same time it was so beautifully passionate.

Whoo, sorry, had to get that out of my system. Anyway, if you love this series as much as I do, then I would most definitely recommend you read Oblivion!
