My Review

After well over a year and a great deal of anticipation, I couldn’t wait to finally get my hands on book five of The Arcana Chronicles. Little did I know how disappointed I would be after finishing it.

The Dark Calling picks up right where book four left off, with Evie discovering (to her dismay) that she is pregnant with Death’s child, after having just found out that Jack is indeed alive. With so much information and betrayal in their midst, she finds her very foundation crumbling around her as she fights for her life against the very person she trusted the most.

I had such high hopes for this book. I figured that extending the wait for book five would mean that it would really pack a punch. Unfortunately, it struck out. The Dark Calling was fast paced, don’t get me wrong, but as I came to its conclusion, I realized that absolutely nothing essential toward the plot of the series happened. This book made me feel like I was in limbo. The events that occurred did not warrant an entire novel. They could have been added to a larger story that would have contributed a lot more to the series as a whole. I was expecting so much to happen, I wanted earth shattering information, and kick ass action left in right as more arcana get taken off the board. Very little of these things came to fruition, and I found myself sorely disappointed.

Now we all know that The Arcana Chronicles has a killer love triangle. However, it is slowly starting to destroy itself and it’s breaking my heart. I am still 100% team Jack, but I’m beginning to just want Evie to make a damn choice already so we can all move on with our lives. Both men are just so fricken genuine and perfect that it almost bothers me. It just doesn’t happen like that. My heart breaks for both men, who really seem to be taking the most fallout throughout the books. At this point Cole is messing with the readers’ emotions big time. It’s just not fair.

I wish I could say that The Dark Calling was worth the wait, but it just wasn’t. It barely scratched the itch I was having to read this series again! And now I’m even more bitter that that was all I got after all that time passed. I can only hope that the next book will make up for it! At the rate the story is going, I’m thinking the next book will be the last. At least I hope it will be. Not sure how much longer I can be strung along. I still love this series, so I’m definitely giving up!

Pick up The Dark Calling now!

My Review

Ok let me just say before I get started, that I have been reading this series for at least three years now, and it has absolutely KILLED me to wait each time for the next books to come out!! Above all, Dead of Winter ended in one of the worst cliffhangers ever!!! Recap: the Emperor sent out a massive lava wave that took out everything (including supposedly Jack) right after Evie chose to be with him over Death. So naturally I REALLY NEEDED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED NEXT!

Arcana Rising picked up literally right where it left off, which was in the middle of absolute chaos! Evie becomes separated from everyone and must struggle on her own to reach Aric and avenge Jack. However, on her journey, she comes across new Arcana, and learns more about herself and the lengths she will go to to protect the ones she loves.  This book was heart wrenching from the get-go. The action was non-stop and I could not put it down. Arcana Rising took me on an epic emotional roller coaster that I still have not come off of.

Once again, Kresley Cole has ensnared my mind/heart. I cannot figure out who I want Evie to be with!! I am so torn between Jack and Death ever still, yet I think I still choose Jack. I don’t know what it is, but I really love this guy’s drive and ruggedness, despite how absolutely wonderful and endearing Aric is. There are some beautiful and sexy moments between Evie and Death in this book that many readers have been waiting for. Don’t get me wrong, part of me really enjoyed reading that, but the other part was super pissed it wasn’t with Jack!

The events leading up to the ending (which came on way too quickly let me tell ya) had me reeling at every page (or kindle swipe). I also couldn’t help but feel that not a whole lot of overall plot movement occurred in this book in comparison to the others. This book felt a little more like an “in between” novel. I definitely still loved it, but I was also really frustrated that it wasn’t longer. I need to know more and I need to know now! The next book cannot come soon enough, which unfortunately isn’t until Spring of 2017!!

Definitely continue this series and buy Arcana Chronicles! Do so on Amazon here!

Review: Dead of Winter (Arcana Chronicles #3) by Kresley Cole

18746546

Goodreads Summary:

Can Evie convince her rival loves to work together? Their survival depends on it in this third book of #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole’s Arcana Chronicles, a nonstop action tale of rescue, redemption, and a revenge most wicked.

Heartbreaking decisions
Evie was almost seduced by the life of comfort that Death offered her—until Jack was threatened by two of the most horrific Arcana, the Lovers. She will do anything to save him, even escape Death’s uncanny prison, full of beautiful objects, material comforts…and stolen glances from a former love.

Uncertain victory
Despite leaving a part of her heart behind with Death, Evie sets out into a perilous post-apocalyptic wasteland to meet up with her allies and launch an attack on the Lovers. Such formidable enemies require a battle plan, and the only way to kill them may mean Evie, Jack, and Death allying. Evie doesn’t know what will prove more impossible: surviving slavers, plague, Bagmen and other Arcana—or convincing Jack and Death to work together.

Two heroes returned
There’s a thin line between love and hate, and Evie just doesn’t know where she stands with either Jack or Death. Will this unlikely trio be able to defeat The Lovers without killing one another first…?

My Review

I was more than ready to finally get my hands on this book! The Arcana Chronicles is one of my absolute favorite series! And now that I reread the first two books I was fully prepared to “sink my claws” (pun intended) into this book!!!

Dead of Winter started off just about right where Endless Knight left off! After Evie learns of Jack’s capture she will do anything to get him back even knowing how many times he’s deceived her in the past. She is willing to defy Death to get to him!

This book was nonstop suspense, I mean literally! Danger and imminent doom lurked behind every corner! Kresley Cole’s dark and sinister plot elements were definitely prominent in this third installment, making for an eerie and gut wrenching story! The love triangle between Evie, Jack, and Death, aka Aric was killing me throughout!! So to add to the constant suspense and action, there was the anticipation over which guy she would choose to be by her side for their rest of her uncertain life! After reading Endless Knight my heart began to be torn. I had always been Team Jack, but I definitely had sympathy for Aric! However, as events played out, I made up my mind that Evie should be with Jack regardless! Though I admired Aric’s fierce love and steadfast determination to win her over!

As the story reached it’s peak, I found myself even more riveted by the precarious content that unfolded!! “The Lovers” were beautifully crafted into this blood thirsty enemy that you couldn’t help but despise! I commend Cole for going to such lengths in creating every character in this book, but especially these two, cause they are some pretty sick pups! Their characters made for a totally brutal climax that had me glued to the edge of my seat. I was never able to predict what was coming next!

By the time the ending rolled around, and Evie had to make her final decision, I found myself getting nervous over her choice! I quite honestly was not sure which guy she would choose, but of course I hoped it would be Jack! I won’t give away who she chooses, but I will definitely say that the ending of this book was completely and utterly GUT WRENCHING!! I cannot believe Cole ended the book with such a HUGE cliffhanger!! This was not an easy book to finish at 2:30 in the morning and try to sleep on folks! Of course now I MUST have book four!!! I can’t wait to see what’s next, and I’ll probably be biting my nails the whole time until then in anticipation and in denial of what my eyes beheld on the pages!

If you are a fan of The Arcana Chronicles, I would definitely recommend you continue your journey with the series and read this exquisite book!

Review: Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles #1) by Kresley Cole

13450339

Goodreads Summary:

She could save the world—or destroy it.

Sixteen-year-old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.

But she can’t do either alone.

With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?

Who can Evie trust?

As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side.

My Review

Well I said I would reread the first two books in The Arcana Chronicles before reading the third book, and I finally am!! Of course this is way overdue, because I’ve been dying to read book three for months, but when I set my mind to something I gotta follow through! I’m definitely glad I reread it; it was a beautiful refresher, and renewed my love for this series!

Evie is your typical popular blondie, she’s a cheerleader dating the captain of the football team and has the world at her disposal. That is until “The Flash” happens, and suddenly the world is a barren wasteland devoid of most life and crawling with zombielike creatures known as Bagmen. On top of that, Evie’s graphic visions grow worse by the day, and she begins to develop more powers that she can’t explain all the while the voices in her head grow louder. Her only ally in the apocalypse is the gorgeous yet frustrating bad boy Cajun, Jackson Deveaux.

Poison Princess is bound to be unlike any book you’ve ever read before!!! It easily finds a way to be an apocalyptic-supernatural-horror-romance all in one! Kresley Cole really has developed a story of such unique proportions that you will never know what to expect when reading this story! Evie is a badass heroin who is full of surprises, and Jackson is bound to be your next heartthrob. Although, their relationship is super rough throughout the book, behind all the arguing and insults, there are true feelings there that neither can deny. The entire plot is so precarious throughout, there is no easy way of putting this book down to take a break from the content. New information is constantly revealed that will leave you reeling and ready for more! I’m currently rereading book two (my favorite of the two) and can’t wait to finally experience Dead of Winter (#3).  If you haven’t picked up this series yet, I seriously recommend you start!!

Review: Deep Kiss of Winter by Kresely Cole & Gena Showalter

6294553

Goodreads Description:

Kresley Cole – Untouchable (Immortals After Dark #8)

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR KRESLEY COLE delivers a breathtaking tale of a brutal vampire soldier about to know love for the first time… and a Valkyrie aching for his touch.

Murdoch Wroth will stop at nothing to claim Daniela – the delicate Valkyrie who makes his heart beat for the first time in three hundred years. Yet the exquisite Danii is part ice fey, and her freezing skin can’t be touched by anyone but her own kind without inflicting pain beyond measure. Can they conquer an agony of frustration and slake the overwhelming desire burning between them?

Gena Showalter – Tempt Me Eternally (Alien Huntress #4.5)

NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR GENA SHOWALTER puts a daring spin on a tale of huntress and hunted… and concocts a sensual chemistry that is positively explosive.

With only skin-to-skin contact, Aleaha Love can change her appearance, assume any identity. Now she’s an AIR (Alien Investigation and Removal) agent on a mission to capture a group of otherworldly warriors. Only she is held captive when dangerously seductive Breean, a golden-skinned, iron-willed commander, threatens her new life – and for the first time, Aleaha wants only to be herself.

My Review: Untouchable by Kresley Cole

Untouchable contained a unique story line filled with different paranormal beings I had never encountered before. Once again I commend Kresley Cole for her ingenuity in her writing, she always finds a way to bring about something new and exciting to her writing.

The romance in Untouchable was everything you could hope for, it was angst filled, steamy, powerful, and all consuming. But it was not without its fair share of problems. Daniela and Murdoch go through many ups and downs before finally relinquishing any doubts and letting their feelings overcome them. I loved seeing the struggle between the two, because it was all the better when they finally came together at last.

One thing I was not a big fan of in this book was the way the plot progressed. It was very jumpy, and tended to suddenly move forward all of the sudden with what I thought was supposed to be a major conflict. It seemed like the plot events surrounding Daniela and Murdoch were not as significant as they were originally made out to be. I would have liked to have actually seen them played out rather than just casually mentioned during the story.

Overall, Untouchable was an enjoyable read for its unique concept and heart wrenching/toe curling romance between Daniela and Murdoch.

My Review: Tempt Me Eternally by Gena Showalter

Though I am a HUGE  fan of Gena Showalter for her White Rabbit Chronicles books, I was not a big fan of her story in Deep Kiss of Winter.

I was really looking forward to reading Tempt Me Eternally after reading the plot description. I mean a weird alien romance? I’m SO in, especially since I’m so in love with the Lux Series by Jennifer Armentrout, I was really open minded to this book. However, it just didn’t deliver.

First of all, the romance in this book picked up instantly, to the point where it was almost annoying with how quickly the two characters: Aleaha and Breean seemed to love each other and wanted to instantly have sex and that would be that. I was much more eager to see how their relationship would evolve around the plot that was set up from the beginning.  However, the plot never really moved, it seemed completely stuck on Aleaha and Breean arguing over the AIR prisoners Breean was holding and Aleaha trying to resist her crazy attraction to Breean and stop him from  getting with her.  The plot was so splotchy, that by the time the final events did roll around, they felt rushed and played out almost too perfectly.

So sure Tempt Me Eternally was pretty steamy (almost to the point where that was all you were reading) and had a different concept for sure, but it did not make for a satisfying read.

I would at least read Deep Kiss of Winter for Untouchable by Kresley Cole, you can buy it on Amazon here or anywhere else that sells books!

Review: Endless Knight (Arcana Chronicles #2) by Kresley Cole

16175040

Goodreads Synopsis:

Shocking Secrets

Evie has fully come into her powers as the Tarot Empress, and Jack was there to see it all. She now knows that the teens who’ve been reincarnated as the Tarot are in the throes of an epic battle. It’s kill or be killed, and the future of mankind hangs in the balance.

Unexpected Allies

With threats lurking around every corner, Evie is forced to trust her newfound alliance. Together they must fight not only other Arcana, but also Bagmen zombies, post-apocalyptic storms, and cannibals.

Gut-Wrenching Treachery

When Evie meets Death, things get even more complicated. Though falling for Jack, she’s drawn to the dangerous Endless Knight as well. Somehow the Empress and Death share a history, one that Evie can’t remember—but Death can’t forget.

My Review

Endless Knight picked up right where Poison Princess left off, which was with a bang! Recap: Evie had finally come into her full powers and released “the red queen,” killing the Alchemist and exposing her true form right in front of Jack. Ladies and gentleman we have ourselves a cliffhanger that just begged for more! I was so excited to begin reading Endless Knight to see what was in store for Evie and Jack’s relationship. I had loved their dynamic from the very beginning, so I needed to know that everything worked out alright between them. I knew they were so in love with each other, so they had to overcome this new obstacle.

First of all, I commend Kresley Cole for coming up with a story that I have NEVER, EVER, seen or heard of before. Each character of the classic Tarot Cards comes alive every hundred years or so to do battle to the death! Who wouldn’t read these books with a plot line like that, especially if you’re a paranormal junkie like me!

Anyway, the action picks up in Endless Knight almost instantly. Evie and the gang’s lives are on the line constantly, and Evie will do anything in her vast power to protect the people she loves, even if it means she has to succumb to the raging monster within her. Endless Knight definitely had its fair share of horrific moments. Let’s just say this book kept me on my toes!

Now we come to the complicated romance that occurs in Endless Knight. I had so much inner turmoil over the course of this book due to all the twists and turns that occur in Evie’s relationships with Jack and… drum roll….Death himself! There were moments when I would be swooning from the beautiful exchanges between Jack and Evie, and moments where I would be screaming in frustration over their situation. Then there were moments with Evie and Death, where I found myself falling for their crazy chemistry that they have for each other. Death definitely has a little somethin somethin as you will well discover. Kresley Cole literally made me start to doubt whose team I stood for: Jack or Death’s, and believe me when I say that’s a rarity. It was almost aggravating how conflicted I was over the two guys, because there were pros and cons to both of them that the reader just can’t ignore. I think though, by the time I finished the book I remain team Jack, and you will definitely know why by the ending! Plus, I just am not one to stray from the original guy that I fall in love with in a series, it’s just not in my reading nature.

Endless Knight ended with an intense development that left me in dire need for book three! Book three is set to come out in October of next year, which to me is basically murder…ughhh. But I’m sure it will be fantastic! I would definitely recommend this book to those who have already read Poison Princess and are teetering as to whether or not to read Endless Knight. It’s an action packed, page turner, filled with plenty of romance, and crazy situations!

You can buy Endless Knight on Amazon here!
