Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Bookish Resolutions/Goals

This meme has moved from The Broke and the Bookish to The Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is definitely a tricky one. And quite honestly I know I’m only going to be able to reach these during the first half of the year. I potentially could start Physical Therapy school in the Fall, but if that doesn’t pan out, then I will for sure be starting in the early  Summer. Thus, I have a limited window to really delve into all things bookish. So I will do my best with what I have.

1. Read more:  This kind of goes without saying, but I really plan to this time. My life leading up to my undergrad graduation was absolute insanity, and my reading habits went to SH**. I was sad at how little I was able to read this past year. That will definitely be changing in 2018. And you know what? It already has!

tenor

2.Explore more blogs: I can’t wait to dive back into my news feed and actively read more book reviews. I honestly cannot remember the last time I did that on WordPress. I know, I’m ashamed.

3. Post more to my Bookstagram: I am most definitely a mediocre bookstagrammer, but I sure do love taking book pics and seeing everyone else’s creativity shine through the books they love. I have already started to commit to posting to it a few times a week! Give it a follow if you’d like: @escapeinsidethepages

4. Post more on my blog: another one that goes without saying. I’d like to start posting more than just book reviews. Sometimes it’s nice to just talk about life. I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting since graduating college, and I’d love to share some of that with you guys.

5. Read the books I said I was going to read last year: need I say more?

6. Do more Top Ten Tuesday Posts: well look at that, I’m already making good on my word….

7. Finish Rereading Harry Potter….Again: This is waaaaaay over due. I stopped my reread of the HP series back in Spring of 2017. I am on book 5 again. Granted I’ve read each of these books all at least twice, some 4 times, but I needed to finish them in order. I also really enjoyed writing my book vs movie posts as I finished reading them, so I’d really love to get back to them.

8. Be sure not to forget to read while in PT school: I want to make sure that no matter how stressed out I get during PT school, that I always have a book to come back to at the end of the day. A book to escape to (pun intended) when the going gets tough. Cause that’s truly what helps keep my sanity, and I’m going to need it during what is sure to be the most difficult (but gratifying) time of my life.

9. Write more: I have a side-project book that I’ve been gradually adding to over the past four years. Unfortunately, it’s rare that I get inspired to add more to it. I would love to finally sit down and add more to the story.

10. Share more of my daily bookishness with social media: I figure, while I have the time to, might as well share more bookish shenanigans with the world. I’m really terrible about actively tweeting or posting to my insta-story, so here’s hoping I can find more reasons to share. I want to be more active with my fellow readers overall.

Review:Bloodlines (Bloodlines #1) by Richelle Mead

8709527

Goodreads Summary:

I wasn’t free of my past, not yet.

Sydney’s blood is special. That’s because she’s an alchemist – one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets – and human lives. But the last encounter Sydney had with vampires got her in deep trouble with the other alchemists. And now with her allegiences in question, her future is on the line.

When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she’s still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far worse. Jill Dragomir – the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir – is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill’s guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And now she has to live with one.

The Moroi court believe Jill and Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside – and within – the school grounds. Now that they’re in hiding, the drama is only just beginning.

SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE VAMPIRE ACADEMY SERIES, READ NO FURTHER!

My Review

I was so excited to get my hands on Bloodlines after absolutely loving The Vampire Academy! I knew the story was focused on Sydney the Alchemist but I wasn’t entirely sure what it was all about. I am so glad I started this journey with the series!

The story focuses on a new assignment for Alchemist Sydney with Jill (the half-sister of the Lissa). After Jill is brutally attacked at court she is asked to be sent away under the protection of guardians and Sydney at a boarding school among humans. After the events surrounding Rose, Sydney has been under scrutiny from her fellow Alchemists, so this is her chance to prove herself and her loyalties. However, as mysterious events surrounding alchemy tattoos progress, and she spends more and more time with Adrain, she soon finds that the line between good and evil is a lot more blurred than she realized.

Sydney’s point of view was refreshing and unexpectedly entertaining. She has a fire in her that you don’t get to see in the Vampire Academy books. Her wit and quick intuition makes her adaptable and lovable at the same time. Though there was not a whole lot of action throughout, I found myself wholly intrigued and pulled in by the characters. There were so many questions being thrown out and I had to know the answers. I wound up being very surprised by how things played out and completely enthralled by the content! The ending was highly suspenseful and utterly gripping, not to mention, I was left with even more questions by the time I reached the last page.

I cannot wait to read book two of this lovely series, I would definitely recommend reading Bloodlines if you loved Vampire Academy as much as I did! Buy it on Amazon here!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: Book Vs Movie

I’m finally posting my Chamber of Secrets Book Vs Movie comparison now that I was able to finish the next audiobook! Once again, this was not my first time reading it but my first time listening to the audiobook! So much love! Unfortunately, the library doesn’t let you renew audiobooks through Overdrive, so I haven’t been able to finish the third book, since it took it away from me while I was still only half way done! At least I was able to finish Chamber of Secrets on time! So here are my main comparisons in a somewhat chronological order!

WARNING: BOOK/MOVIE SPOILERS AHEAD!

stuff-i-like-119-5

Movie: Dobby levitates and drops a cake right on top of the wife of Vernon’s boss.

VS

Book: Dobby does levitate the cake, however, it crashes all over Harry and the walls. Worse than that, Harry gets accused by the Ministry of Magic for performing a vanishing spell that Dobby used in order to disappear.

tumblr_md5gviq7371qf0zq1o3_250.gif

Movie: Ron and the twins rescue Harry from the Dursley’s using the car without entering the house.

VS

Book: Fred and George physically enter the house and break into the cupboard under the stairs in order to get Harry’s trunk full of his Hogwarts stuff out.

tumblr_inline_naa1txpcdg1s8wp3s

Movie: Harry lands in a sketchy shop in Nocturn Alley using floo powder, gets trapped in a creepy hand, and moves on.

VS

Book: Harry lands in a sketchy shop that Draco and Luscious Malfoy happen to be in and overhears their conversation with the shopkeeper.

tumblr_n4ehios65f1t882v5o2_250

Movie: Harry and the Weasleys (+Hermione) encounter the Malfoys after getting their books in Diagon Alley, trade insults and leave thereafter.

VS

Book: Mr. Weasley and Luscious Malfoy actually get into a physical fight in the bookstore. CRAZY RIGHT?!

anigif_original-grid-image-18549-1377808120-1.gif

Movie: Halloween is not even really mentioned in the movie, however Mrs. Norris is found petrified the night of Halloween.

VS

Book: Nearly Headless Nick invites Harry, Ron and Hermione to celebrate his 500th death day on Halloween Night (I think it’s 500) which basically just celebrates how long he’s been dead. They go to a party with tons of ghosts and are bored out of their minds.

tumblr_nh9x4334yy1tr0o2xo1_500

Ok so this is a fun fact one, not really a difference in the movie, just a cool tidbit of info!

Movie: All we know is that Ron just absolutely hates and is terrified of spiders.

VS

Book: Ron tells Harry the reason he’s so scared of spiders is because when he was little, one of the twins turned his teddy bear into one!

Well there you have it folks, the main differences I thought I would share! I’m hoping to keep posting them as I go through the books again!

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Characters I’d Name A Child/Dog/Cat After

This meme is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Yay for having time to do another Top Ten Tuesday!! I love this topic! Some of these I’d love to name my future children after, others are definitely pet worthy! For the record, I have no children but of course as a girl I’ve thought about names for a while.  Here they are in no particular order (except my first which is my top).

il_fullxfull.260217789

1. Alice (Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland): I am so in love with this story and I love the name Alice because of it, and of course I LOVE Alice in The White Rabbit Chronicles! It also helps that the name of the main character in Resident Evil is Alice too! I would love to name my future daughter after the classic character!

558044

2. Rowan (Rowan Hood: Outlaw Girl of Sherwood Forest): this name is just so simple yet so unique; it would make such a cute little girl’s name! I wouldn’t mind using it in personal writing either.

1656001

3.Jared (The Host): I loved this name from the get-go! And then it was made all the better when I fell in love with Supernatural starring Jared ! The name is just hot! I would so not be opposed to naming a son Jared.

unnamed

4.Avelyn (Avelyn): This name is so elegant and beautiful! I’m really not sure what I would use it for, but probably in personal writing.

13644055

5. Archer (Opposition (Lux #5)): Super badass name that would also make a great name for my future german shepherd that I am determined to get as soon as I have a house with a yard!

1034516

6. Matthew ( The Named): One of the best Christian names,it’s strong and comforting. I would love to name my future son Matthew!

16096824

7. Feyre (A Court of Thorns and Roses): Pronounced Fay-ruh, this name is gorgeous! It’s such a fairy tale name and would make a beautiful name for a little girl, or even a cute kitty name if I’m being honest!

13450339

8. Jack or Jackson (Arcana Chronicles): Great name for a dog or cat! Super cute and brings all the feels.

25898833

9. Riven (The Almost Girl): Badass name! I would love to name my kid this or a pet, sad that either one would work.

21787

10.Westley (The Princess Bride): This name is adorable and all I see is Carrie Elwes every time but that would not stop me from naming a pet after this character! In fact my best friend and I named a puppy she was fostering after Westley!
