Goodreads Summary:

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it’s one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took “mean girl” to a whole new level, and it’s clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She’s getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she’s falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash.

But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn’t just buried deep inside of Sam’s memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

My Review

This is the first contemporary book I’ve read by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and also the second audiobook I’ve listened to! I definitely enjoyed Don’t Look Back from start to finish! The plot was gripping and held my attention constantly, there were just so many questions that I needed the answers to!

Don’t Look Back focuses on the life of Samantha who was found bloodied and beaten after being missing for days with no memory of who she is or what happened to her. All she knows is her supposed best friend is still missing and someone else took part in what happened to her. Now she must rely on the help of friends and family to reveal the truth, but when she begins to remember more, she quickly learns who is friend and who is foe.

There were plenty of plot twists that I did not see coming in this book. It was so different to experience from a narrator with no memories of her past. It was like discovering a life alongside the character. Speaking of characters, all of them were varied and added depth to the story. Each one had me questioning who the culprit was throughout. And trust me when I tell you that it’s definitely not who you think it is! By the time the ending came around, I was on the edge of my seat and in shock!

Don’t Look Back was a great stand alone, but I would expect nothing less from Jennifer L. Armentrout! I would recommend this book to any JLA fan out there, and to any one who enjoys contemporary romance/thrillers!
