Hailey’s dreams have always been, well…vivid. As in monsters from her nightmares follow her into her waking life vivid.
When her big sister goes missing, eighteen-year-old Hailey finds the only thing keeping her safe from a murderous 3,000-year-old beast is an equally terrifying creature who has fallen “madly” in love with her. Competing to win her affection, the Dream Creature, Asher, lures her to the one place that offers safety—a ParaScience university in Alaska he calls home. There, she studies the science of the supernatural and must learn to live with a roommate from Hell, survive her ParaScience classes, and hope the only creature who can save her from an evil immortal doesn’t decide to kill her himself.
Eerie was entirely different from anything I’ve ever read before! Some stuff was so bizarre I had trouble wrapping my mind around it at times. Hailey has dreamt of a mysterious man all her life but has never quite known if he’s real or not. However, the truth is quickly revealed when she experiences a devastating atrocity that changes her life forever. So when she gets accepted into a college of the supernatural, she jumps on the opportunity to get away and discover the truth behind her parents death and the man in her dreams.
There was so much going on all at once in Eerie it was difficult to hold on to my emotions. The love triangle McCoy creates was super confusing and emotionally traumatic all the way through. I never knew what to think or who to trust, it was definitely a strenuous reading experience. Fortunately, there was plenty of action and plot twists to keep me occupied during the romantic struggle. Hailey was quite the sad lead character as far as the awful things she had to deal with through literally the entire book! What she had to endure was brutal, but she stayed strong throughout. By the time the ending hit, everything had come to a head, and I was just waiting to see who made it through to the last page, and who didn’t. I was not disappointed in that area, I’m definitely intrigued to see what’s in store for Hailey, there has got to be more after the way this book ended (cliffhanger folks).
If you are in to the supernaturally odd and baffling then I would recommend you pick up this book! Buy it on Amazon here.
