Review: What Kills Me (What Kills Me #1 )by Wynne Channing

Goodreads Summary:

An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.

So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith Lucas, must battle to survive.

How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?

My Review

What Kills Me brought about an entirely new  vampire story that I had never encountered before. Axelia’s transformation into a vampire is so unique and different that I was pulled into the book right away! She goes on an incredible journey with the wonderful Lucas as she fights to prove that she isn’t the monster prophecy says she will become. With her life on the line, Lucas agrees to help her on the run, and to escape the clutches of the Monarchy.

What Kills Me was filled with constant suspense and plot development that had me glued to the pages from start to finish. Just when things started to slow down Axelia and Lucas’ lives would be threatened yet again. Axelia’s character is one that you can root for and appreciate. She evolves so much over the course of events in this book and becomes one kickass vampire, stronger than any in history.

Though not a whole lot of romantic developments occurred, it was there nonetheless. There was a beautiful struggle in the beginning between the two characters that made their growing relationship all the more worth while! Lucas is strong, hard headed and the perfect companion for Axelia. Their feelings for one another gradually grew as time went on and brought forth all the feels, especially by the ending.

Speaking of the ending, everything finally came to a head and a battle ensued that was nail biting worthy. Plot changing information was revealed encouraging me to promptly purchase the second book entitled I Am Forever. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Lucas and Axelia.

If you are a vampire/paranormal romance fan, then What Kills Me is definitely the book for you! It was a good fast paced read with plenty of action to get you through!
