Review: Half-Blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer Armentrout

12737871

Goodreads Summary:

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals–well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she’s crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn’t her biggest problem–staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My Review

If you are a regular follower/viewer of my blog, then you know that it is no secret that I LOVE Jennifer Armentrout’s books, specifically The Lux Series! Well I always knew that she had written the Covenant series before she wrote The Lux Series and had been meaning to read them for a couple years now. And every blogger I’ve seen that’s read The Lux Series has also enjoyed the Covenant Series. So I knew I had to eventually read them, and huzzah! I finally read the first book!!!

Half-Blood brings about an entirely new race, while combining components of mythology and supernatural lore at the same time! So needless to say, it is a very unique story. I was pulled into this book almost instantly. The story line was captivating with its ingenuity and wonderfully appealing characters!

Alex is a hard headed, rebellious half-blood who manages to find her way into trouble at every turn. Whilst Aiden is a Pure who is level headed, extremely powerful, and oh yeah did I mention extremely hot! Let’s just say things begin to heat up between the two as they battle with their need to be together and with their knowledge of knowing it’s forbidden to ever do so! But it’s kinda hard to “unlike” one another when Aiden offers to train Alex and is therefor required to spend everyday together (which was oh so fine by me).

As Alex and Aiden grow closer, secrets are revealed and enemies are at their doorstep. Alex learns who/what she is and must come to terms with what it means. She must then do the unthinkable to protect the people she cares about, but to do so she has to put everything on the line.

This book had me glued to the pages and awake way too late reading! The content was just that awesome! Even when there wasn’t any big action going on, the dialogue and plot in general were constantly gripping! The romantic struggle was aggravating by the end but I still have hope for Aiden and Alex for sure! I really enjoyed Half-blood and I definitely recommend this book for any JLA fan, and for anyone looking for a new paranormal read!

You can buy Half-Blood here on Amazon! Or you might even be able to find it at your local library! I did!
