The New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments continues—and so do the thrills and danger for Jace, Clary, and Simon.
What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?
Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.
Well, I broke down and read the fifth book in the Mortal Instruments series, I just had to, and I know I will see this series through to the end. Book four had ended with a cliffhanger of sorts as you know, with Jace being in the clutches of Sebastian separating him from Clary yet again! So I had to know how they were going to save Jace from himself.
City of Lost Souls was not much different from City of Fallen Angels in the way of plot. Everyone was scrambling to save Jace, Clary makes reckless decisions, Simon deals with his own problems, Alec’s relationship is thrown in and other POVs from Mia and Jordan are given etc., all with some demon action in between. That is the basic low down of this book. Of course there were certain new developments that suck you in, including many more steamy parts from Jace and Clary. However, it was just really frustrating for me to go through yet another book where there is some stupid obstacle keeping them apart! That has continuously become the conflict of this series as it progresses.
Furthermore, the content of the story seemed to drag a little. This was probably due to the fact that I was waiting soo long for Jace to be Jace again, and for them to just deal with Sebastian already. Which I must say, as a reader you will hate Sebastian sufficiently more by the end of this book! Otherwise, there were a few good action scenes for sure, but not as many as there have been in the past. The plot was exciting to a certain extent but then I was just ready for things to move forward, which did not happen quickly enough for me.
By the end of this book, however, I was romantically satisfied at last. I am especially eager to see how the final book plays out, which you just know everything is about to go down in the next book! I have to say though, if for some reason, Cassandra Clare decides to not end the series with the sixth book, I’m gonna be pissed! Enough is enough, quit while you’re ahead, because you need to know when a good thing comes to an end. Sorry, but that’s just how I feel at this point. I am excited though for the next book, and I expect some hardcore action and romance. Hopefully one that will not be broken apart no sooner it has started up again. Too bad it doesn’t come out until freaking May 2014! Ohh…well… I still recommend you reading this book, if only to be prepared for the final book in the series!
